Best places to snowboard in Canada!
When planning your family holidays in Canada during the winter, making a trip to the mountains for skiing or snowboarding is essential! Canada is home to many world-renowned resorts that will have your family lost in wonderment. Below is a list of my favourite places to go with my family! Typically, we put our kids in lessons for the morning, meet up for lunch, and then spend the afternoon snowboarding together. Enjoy the best places to snowboard in Canada!
Whistler Blackcomb – Whistler, British Columbia
It’s no surprise that Whistler Blackcomb made the list of the best places to snowboard in Canada, as it is also the largest! Home to the Canadian Olympics in 2010, this mountain has put itself on the map. Whistler and Blackcomb are 2 separate mountains connected by the Peak to Peak Gondola. This gondola holds the Guinness World Record for highest elevation at 436 meters above the valley floor. This resort has 35 chairlifts that carry 36,000 people every hour. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Whistler Blackcomb is the best place to snowboard in Canada!

Big White – Kelowna, British Columbia
Driving further east into the interior of British Columbia, you will arrive at Big White Resort established in 1963 with one T-bar lift. Big White houses 16 chairlifts that carry up to 28,000 people every hour! Big White is the second largest resort village mountain in Canada, and is famous for its “Okanagan Champagne Powder”. A short gondola ride from the parking lot takes you to the village where you will begin your day. Big White has a wonderful ski school program you can drop the kids off for the day. Evidently, if you have avid snowboarders, there are plenty of family-friendly runs to go down the mountain together. Check out all of the things Big White has to offer here!
Silver Star – Vernon, British Columbia
Silver Star is one of the best places to snowboard in Canada in our minds as it is a smaller mountain that is easy to get around with kids! Parking is usually a short walk from the village; furthermore, the kid’s center is easy to access. Silver Star houses 10 chairlifts, including a gondola that runs at night! Silver Star has everything, including groomed runs, powder runs, and family-friendly runs. When your day of snowboarding is complete, there are pubs, restaurants, and parties running throughout the season! Learn more about Silver Star here!
Sunshine Village – Banff, Alberta
Sunshine Village ranks in my list as one of the best places to snowboard in Canada for its amazing views and terrain, and for the fond memories I have of coming here with my family. Similarly to Big White, a gondola will take you to the village where all the action happens. Sunshine Village, like other resorts, has trails for all ages and abilities.
At the end of the day, my dad and I would take on the greatest challenge Sunshine Village offers by riding the summit to the parking lot. A trip on Great Divide and a transfer over Goat’s Eye Express will take you to the summit. When you begin your run, you can snowboard to the village, ride the gondola down, OR continue on the ski out path which is an additional 5 Km to the parking lot. The accomplishment (and burn in the legs) is one to be proud of! This is a tough one for littles on a snowboard and I would recommend they take the gondola down!
You can also go snowshoeing during your stay in Banff!
In conclusion…
Whether skiing or snowboarding, your family holidays in Canada will be unforgettable if you spend your time at one of these resorts! The mountain allure, pristine snow, and forest charm will have you wishing you never had to leave.
